pick list

even though it was a four day work week, i am so ready for the weekend and all its netflix, no pants, sleep in glory. so for your friday pleasure, i leave you with some of my favorites from the week. yay.

1 - [buzzfeed - haunted house hidden camera] oh man. i am seriously dying of laughter looking at these. beware looking at these by yourself in public and or quiet places.

2 - [mumford & sons - i will wait] i cannot get enough of this song and maybe i do a fist pump every time it comes on the radio.

3 - [pinterest - nothing is really lost until your mom can't find it] such truth.

4 - [mane 'n tail] - i've used this a couple times and it honestly does make my hair thicker. aaaand i like that it has directions for 'animal use' and 'human use'.

5 - [twitter - @everyword] a twitter account dedicated to tweeting every single word from the dictionary. now that's just cool. basically they tweet one word every half hour and they will be finished in 2013.

on my areyoukiddingmepleaselordno pick list:

1 - [buzzfeed - amy poehler and will arnett split] no. no. no no no no no nonononononono. NO. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. #crying #trueloveisdead

survival.

this is the thing you guys. i love the olympics.
and i am always surprised by how much i love them whenever they come around. but i really do. the only way i can convey this correctly would be the order of the loves/obsessions/passions in my life:

church/family/friends
the killers
the olympics
tv shows
food and sleep

i wish i was kidding. [no i don't.]
so it is kind of breaking my heart that i don't have cable right now but you better believe i am following as many twitters as i can and that i have three apps to keep me in the loop.
the 2008 olympics happened at the very end of my first summer term at byu and went through the summer break before fall. it was perfect timing. i watched michael phelps win all eight of his gold medals* and i realized the olympics is the only event that can simultaneously get me so motivated to do great things and be active as well as sit on my couch for two weeks straight watching the games. this is real life.

also who loved the opening ceremonies?! i have only watched part of it but i'd say my favorites were david beckham, kenneth brannagh, and the royals [i freaked out every time they showed kate middleton].
and of course bond. james bond.
i love the british and how they were able to capture so much of their history from shakespeare to the beatles, from james bond to mr. bean. so so fun.

yay olympics. yay motivated people. god bless america.

via
and good luck to all the other countries competing! yay for world togetherness.

*i saw the team race with lauren when he did that crazy flex scream thing that was hilarious and for his final race my mom and i sped from provo to st g to get there just in time. #adventures

family, religion, and the green bay packers.

even though this is a famous speech, i just saw it for the first time the other day. i had to look up jimmy valvano on wikipedia to see who he was too... give me a break, i was three when it this was given.
i love how much heart and passion he has. i would strongly suggest watching this if you need some encouragement, or even to store some for a rainy day.
also, who knew will smith was so inspirational? i have been thinking about the things he said in this video for the last two days. a lot of the time i don't give things the one hundred percent dedication they deserve and that is something i am really trying to work on. give will a listen too.

happy friday! dare to be great!

i've got a crush on you.

people i have random and not as pronounced crushes on:

tom hiddleston
like loki from thor. and f scott fitzgerald from midnight in paris.
i follow him on twitter and, i don't know, i just think he is so adorable and down to earth. have i seen the avengers yet? no. don't remind me. but please partake in this hilarious interview slash video so you all know what i mean when i say lokiiiii'd!!!
matthew perry
probably because of chandler bing from friends. or maybe because he is the old version of zac efron (see 17 again). i just love him so much. i also follow matthew on twitter and i think i get more excited for his tweets than anyone else's. he is probably in the top ten celebrities i would want to meet. and he's coming out with a new show! who's excited? this guy. girl. i'm a girl.
seth meyers
i kind of think he is adorable. from weekend update to new year's eve, i just want to listen to his wit and stare at his blazingly beautiful smile. all day. everyday. slash be his best friend.
spock
my friends have been watching all the star treks and i have tagged along a couple times... and i have come to the conclusion that between spock's deep voice and his tortured logical soul, you just cannot go wrong. and don't even get me started on his eyebrows. i would live long and prosper with him for eternity.

how to be awesome while looking for a job:

sit outside in the beautiful weather and contemplate life's elusive mysteries.
go crazy at the local library. i know i sure did. there will definitely be a few renewals coming up.
see 'the lucky one'. twice, if you so desire. i can neither confirm nor deny that happened and that it was just as great, if not better, the second time. #zacefron4life
hang out with your roommate's dog. because she will love you no matter what.
and i definitely just watched this whole video.
red hair. green eyes. ftw.

it's raining, men.

i have recently become obsessed with old men. yes. i just said those words.

harrison ford.
homeboy knows what's up. he had me at 'uh, everything's fine, situation normal' in star wars and 'i hate snakes!' as indiana jones. basically he is the ultimate bad a slash good guy and i love him for it. if i ever tell a guy i love him and he responds 'i know', i will marry him on the spot, no questions asked. also, archeologists are now at the top of my list of people i need to date asap.
robert redford.
before there was brad pitt, there was robert redford. (although, the resemblance is uncanny). robert's perfectly coiffed hair, intellectual spirit, and variety of characters make for a man you cannot deny. he is a baseball genius in the natural, a smooth swindler in the sting, and the cowboy i would like to take me away in butch cassidy and the sundance kid. and then he gives michelle pfeiffer a foot massage in up close and personal. stop it right now.
colin firth.
there is a reason that it was divinely decided long ago that colin firth should play mr. darcy. honestly, if you have not seen the bbc version of pride and prejudice, do yourself a favor and buy some ice cream, pizza, a super soft blanket, and set aside five hours as soon as humanly possible in order to right this wrong. and then do not even get me started on the king's speech, the importance of being earnest, love actually, and what a girl wants.
the end.

my main mormon man.

how i know i talk too much about brandon flowers slash how much i love him: when five or more people ask me if i've seen the brandon flowers 'i'm a mormon' video. these people are my true friends.
anna is the winner for getting to me first, texting me friday night with the glorious news and then subsequently emailing me the link and discussing it with me after i watched it and freaked out in someone's house who thought i was crazy weird for screaming in their kitchen.
i heard he was making one of these about a year ago from a solid source so i was not surprised when i heard about it, just extremely ecstatic it was finally out. now i don't have to convince people that he is in fact mormon and he is in fact active.
huzzah.
i've always been a believer, brandon. just keep that in mind when you're looking for your number one fan.
"my name is brandon flowers. i'm a father, i'm a husband, and i'm a mormon."
kill me now.

because it made me lol.

top ten ways barack obama can boost his popularity with younger voters:

10. refer to himself as the chillaxer-in-chief.
9. limit speech to 140 characters or less.
8. broadcast oval office addresses in 3D.
7. replace rahm emanuel with a hunky, brooding vampire.
6. trade in air force one for a rocket-powered obama-cycle.
5. answer tough questions with 'whatevs.'
4. change name to bajustin obieber.
3. refer to his abdominal muscles as 'the administration.'
2. check into rehab, go to prison, check back into rehab, go back to prison, check back into rehab.
1. join team coco.

what days will hold.

moving in to a new place and starting a new semester at school is always a little craziness that takes me a few days to figure out and adjust to. i feel like last week was a whole kaleidoscope of ups and downs, from realizing i can only have half of my grant for tuition to realizing i have more free time then ever. every day was filled with weird, what the crap news and also discoveries that life really is a bit fantastic. friday was kind of like that.

i worked from 8 to 1, a new normal friday thing. then leslie took me to the car dealership to finally pick up my car. it was there for four days [which is a whole crazy weird story in and of itself] and i was definitely ready to have it back. after dealing with ricky [yeah, i'm on a casual first name basis with the nissan technician], i finally got out of there with my car and leslie and i headed up to the mountains for a hike.

we went to stewart falls in provo canyon and it was so beautiful and fun. i love spending time with my friends [and maybe getting lost on a long winding road] and talking about anything and everything. i can't believe i have never made this hike before. it was incredible, take a look:
after we made our way back down [and saw a snake... i only freaked out a lot] leslie went home to shower and i went and filled up my car with gas. oh and locked both my keys and my phone in my car. wow ahlin, really? really, did that just happen? yes it did. after staring at the keys sitting  i asked the mini mart worker people if i could use their phone and i called my dad because he obviously has all the answers. he instructed me to call geico and i was out of there within half an hour. i was just laughing at myself because it was so unlike me to do that and i knew that at least three people were trying to get a hold of me. in fact, when i checked my phone, i felt more popular than i had been all week. why does that always happen? i don't know.

when i finally got back to my apartment, leslie came over and we made delicious veggie burgers, zucchini, and sweet potato fries. we be healthy. then we got our friend jared and went to the rooftop concert here in provo. imagine dragons was playing and there were tons of people there. i went last year to see benton paul and nik day but it looks like the word has gotten out on how cool they are.
fun story:
i checked twitter when i got there and saw this

obviously i freaked out and tweeted him

not two minutes later, he walks right by me.

did you catch that?

I CAN WILL DAVID ARCHULETA INTO MY PRESENCE.

it's a gift really. i freaked out a little [a lot] and grabbed leslie's arm until there was no circulation left [sorry lo]. he stopped about ten feet away and it looked like he was looking for something. me obviously. too bad he didn't see me staring at him shamelessly. a minute or so later he walked past me again the same way he had come.
um, why didn't you talk you him ahlin? i'm sure you're all asking. hi, have you ever seen david archuleta in the flesh and have to come up with something to say on the spot? it's a lot harder than you'd think. all i could think to say if i stopped him was 'um, you're david archuleta.' really, that is all that came to my mind. i held on to enough dignity to know i shouldn't say that to him. and it was too dark for a picture. so i just looked at him longingly and soaked it in, kind of like i did with zac-face.
yes i did make that big a deal out of it. i mean, look at him.
he is utah's gem.

ahlin's perfect weekend part 1

um how do you describe the best weekend ever? i don't know.
sarah, danny, and colby came down for the weekend and we had such a blast. they got here friday evening and then we went over to the mcgrath's for a bbq (fun and delicious, as always). then we hit up yogurtland #duh and called it a night.
the next morning we cruised down pacific coast highway to huntington beach. it was perfectly sunny, not too crowded and i even got to see anna! huge plus. bless twitter for it's instant stalking abilities.
after we had lunch at cpk, we cleaned up and headed up to dodgers stadium. it was one dollar dodger dog night #awesome so we all had our first dodger dog! #epicnessinmymouth
mine bestie sm. please compare to the exact pic almost a year ago. #weheartbaseball
i don't know what's cooler, our super yummy frozen lemonade of my childhood...
or seeing bill nye the science guy sitting right by us. #forrealzzz
probably seeing bill. the man taught me everything i know.

that one time my bestie came to visit me in socal. and it was awesome.

so my bff sarah... she's awesome. and i love her. and she loves me. and we are a happy family. jk. but really. she's the best of the best. she is the troy to my abed, the rachel to my monica, the jon to my stephen.
her and her sister hannah came down and stayed with me for a couple days and played and ate and, oh yeah, saw the kooks.
and it was freaking bomb.
the la temple! so pretty, it totally caught us off guard.
the kooks... were amazing. and it was so fun to see them live and to see them with sarah. the kooks are to sarah as the killers/brandon flowers are to me. so... yeah. kind of a big deal.
i had work off the next day so we slept in, had a yummy breakfast courtesy of mike and amy, packed up and headed down to carlsbad to hang out with my dad and hit up the beach. it was a win on all accounts.
most massive fish taco of my life.
just iphonin' it up on the beach. #webecool
having sarah and hannah visit me was the perfect way to finish up my birthday and my first week out here. i honestly don't know what i would have done if they were there to balance out all the change. probably would have drown away my sorrows with root beer and peanut m&m's. good thing that didn't happen...
