day of my life.

i thought it might be fun to share a few snapshots of what my day to day life [usually] looks like. i might do some more installments of these since my life is an ever-changing kaleidoscope that brings up experiences and adventures i am surprised with daily. no sarcasm whatsoever.
starting my day off with some chamomile honey tea from my incredibly festive byu cup. forever a cougar.
i don't have a table so this is my view as i lean against the counter eating my delicious oatmeal breakfast.
my desktop at work. my coworkers think i'm crazy. #hatersgonnahate
i definitely underestimated how much i could use post its. i thought i loved them before... but i knew nothing of post it love.
what it looks like when i leave work. sunlight!
stopped by tom thumb on my way home. please note the 112 degrees. what uppp.
even with the unbelievably high temperature i am wearing a long sleeve cardigan. this because my office is freezing to the point where i warm my hands with freshly printed paper.
i always check the mail before i walk in my apt. yes. that is what my actual mailbox actually looks like.
watched the gym girls completely dominate while i filed some papers. i may have cried. i don't know. whatever. don't look at me.
going for a run. still insane amounts of hot. [100 degrees+ at 8:30 pm]
my beautiful bed is all kinds of heavenly and is probably my favorite place in dallas. yeah. i said it.

that is my day. not included: listening to alec baldwin's podcast on the way to work, leftover chocolate cake i thoroughly savored and enjoyed, my trip to office depot during lunch, my commute home in record time, the hour long conversation i had with anna [second one in two days], the amazing watermelon i ate with dinner. maybe next time.

the haps in instas - part two

another set of my dallas life in instagrams. almost finished playing catch up...
1- waffle house wednesday. it's a thing and it's happening. i love the waffle house. it's so southern and i love feeling like basically every movie i have seen with a diner in it is correct. it's amazing.

2 - one friday night i went with some friends to fort worth to see the fort worth symphony play in the fort worth botanic garden. that night the theme was star wars and beyond. needless to say, it was kind of incredible. it was my heaven. picnic, trees, music, summer, fireworks, even a laser light show. i was in awe at my life that night.

3 - i bought and cut my first watermelon last week. it was quite an exciting experience. it probably took me an hour to cut and has lasted me a while. new snack i love: cold watermelon and kettle corn. just do it. you can thank me later.

4 - saturday we had a ward pool party and bbq. with the 99 degrees plus humidity, it was a good way to spend the afternoon.

i was walking far from home.

byu has this amazing path that goes half way around campus.
i think it's so pretty. i usually use it when i'm walking home. it takes a little longer but it's just so picturesque. i feel like i have a little piece of my ideal heaven with me. i usually see a couple deer too. and who doesn't love deer?

bless the sweats

once again i choose comfort over fashion.
it got freeeezing here in p town and it feels like torture, especially since i got a taste of st george's sunny sixty three degree weather last week. now i'm wishing. pleading. begging on my knees for spring to show.
good thing i'm going to canada in two days.

weather the weather

well. it snowed.
for some reason it was quite calming to see first thing in the morning.
even though it was 630 and i wasn't supposed to be up for another two hours.
i wish i could capture the mountains.
they're my absolute favorite part of utah.

this is where i live.

my backyard.
i love st george.
it's funny to think i used to hate it. when we first moved there six years ago, i thought that nothing worse could happen. moving from sunny southern california to the desert of utah? who in their right mind would want to do that?! it only took me a few months to change my mind and my heart and be thankful for the place i was in. i would do it again too. i know my family and i were blessed for moving there and i know i was given many more opportunities by living there my high school years.
and it really is beautiful. it never ceases to amaze me.
it was so good to be back. even though thanksgiving and christmas aren't very far apart, it was a much needed break.
i love being with my family.
now it's back to the snow. so much snow. fun facts: i left all of my makeup in st george, black water came out of my shower this morning, my phone wouldnt turn on [fixed that though, thank goodness] and i'm still sick.
but i'm happy. why? i seriously have no idea.

bf: the day

well, the wonderful day finally came when i got to see brandon.
and oh was it glorious.
let's start from the beginning.
of course the night before we had to figure out what i was going to wear.
after several unsuccessful outfits, this is what we came up with.
this is my yeah, i fly to los angeles for less than a day to see brandon flowers, don't you? getup.
flew out of salt lake. time: 1130.
i heart planes. and sitting in a chair in the sky. aka flying.
blake picked me up and we went to our grandma and grandpa griffith's house. then we walked to the pier for some yummmmy lunch. right there. by the ocean. don't worry about it.
my yummy yummy fish tacos. probably my favorite california treat.
there were super cool bike racks too.
after that we walked back to their house and blake and i took a nap. we were both pretty beat so it felt good to get a couple hours of recovery time. then we met up with dad for dinner at spires where i had some french toast. mmmm...
after that blake and i headed to la. of course there was a bit of traffic but it was definitely good bonding time :) and we arrived at the wiltern right before the opening act got onstage!
the first guy [fran healy of the band travis] was pretty good but i was just itching to hear brandon. finally, at 9, he took the stage.... and blew me away.
the opening song was on the floor. he walked out to the center of the stage and started to sing. the lighting only showed his silhouette at first. to hear this rich, deep sound coming from a mysterious shadowed figure was really powerful. and then they lit his face. and it took everything i had to remember to breathe.
he was wearing a white shirt with the sleeves rolled up and a vest. do you know what vests do to me? they make it impossible for me to focus on anything else besides the wearer of the vest. and in this case. i had no problem with that.
his voice was everything i had remembered and more. the clarity and strength of his voice is pure divinity. the power in each song he sings shows how he believes every word. his enthusiasm on stage is addicting. his signature move of jumping on the speakers and adding a fist pump makes your excitement triple.
please. if you are looking for an inspiringly good time, something different to throw into your schedule, something to get excited about, go to his concert. i promise you will not regret it. he is worth every penny. and not just because i've loved him for the past five years. he is a quality performer with a voice and presence that is unprecedented. here are the shows. if you are near any of the locations, please. just go. don't make excuses. that's not what life's about.
the videos turned out a lot better than the pictures. so please. partake and witness [full screen please] the wonderfulness that is brandon flowers.
for the encore, they came back out and brandon said,
"we have a little treat for you guys... actually, it's a treat for us too... the police are here!"
and out walked andy summers from the police. and then he played with the band while brandon sang roxanne.
holy crap. only in la.
when we were walking back to the car, we saw what we assumed was brandon's tour bus. excited face!
we made our way back to ggg's where we said our goodbyes and i went inside. i showed grandma my merch and made my way to bed. but not before i tried on my new shirt!
warning: i may wear this shirt everyday for the next three weeks. please do not judge. thank you.
and the poster.
the next morning grandma and i got up nice and early to head to breakfast before i had to be at the airport.
this is my grandparent's house, where they've lived for over fifty years and where my daddy-o grew up!
and where my dad [and all his siblings] went to high school.
please behold the beautiful crisp and clear california morning i woke up to. i think some would describe it as paradise.
we stopped at hof's hut for some breakfast [i got eggs and a pumpkin muffin. let's not discuss how pumpkin anything is a sever weakness of mine].
then grandma dropped me off at the airport where i made it perfectly in time for my flight.
and i kind of felt like fergie walking out to the plane. minus the glamour.
landed in salt lake. time: 1045.
yup. less than twenty four hours.

red orange yellow

this weekend was full of wonderfulness and wonder.
we had a ward date activity that we [the activities committee] were in charge of. it was a carving pumpkins date, so guess who got to go buy the thirty pumpkins from smith's? me, kelsie and josh of course!

just in case you were wondering, thirty pumpkins at 19 cents/lb is about $100. and people will stare at you when you have to bring three carts full in from the outside. even though it's october. why it's weird to buy so many pumpkins in october, i have no idea.

saturday my mom and i met up with niki and some of her friends after a wedding at blue lemon in salt lake [um, so so good. seriously, check it out.] and my brother trent and his wife brooke were there too! it was such a nice surprise and so good to see them.

they had luci mae for the day too. she is to die for.

on our way to nordstrom rack, my mom and i passed this historic site. i definitely did not squeal and beg my mom to pull over so i could get a pic. it's old news to her: her siblings went to high school there who knows how long ago. luckies.
after we shopped [and by 'shopped' i mean looked at super cute stuff and didn't buy anything], we went back to the hotel where my mom is staying in snowbird. i had never been to snowbird [it's a ski resort up a canyon by salt lake city] but being up there was the best thing for me. the drive was so beautiful and i realized how much i love the mountains, especially now. seriously. look.
this is the hotel slash resort we stayed in. um. it's awesome. i could hang out there every day.
sooo pretty much that was my weekend. let's just say i want to be up there all week with my mom instead of being the responsible student slash employee that i am.
